Gordon Duane “Gordy” Luthi

Gordon “Gordy” Duane Luthi was born on May 24, 1934, to William and Gladys Luthi. He loved playing football and basketball. He graduated from Hawley High School in May of 1952. He moved to Chula Vista, California and worked for Rohr Aircraft. He served in the Army from 1954 to 1956 and traveled to Virginia, Washington, and Alaska. When he got out of the Army, he attended Dakota Business College for 18 months. Gordy went to work at Foremost Dairies as the office manager. He then went to work for NSP for the next 32 years. He often spoke of the wonderful lifelong friends he made while working at NSP!

Gordy married JoAnn Frisk in Wyndmere, ND, on June 28, 1959. They had two daughters, Sandy and Barbara. On February 2, 2002, Gordy married Margy Peterson in Sisseton, SD. They loved travelling and spent many winters in Mesa, AZ. They loved going on road trips! Gordy loved attending family gatherings, going to casinos, dancing, country music, hunting, fishing and ice fishing, snowmobiling, cheering for the Twins, Vikings, Bison, and the Wild. He was always a very faithful fan. He was an excellent pinochle player in which you always wanted him as your partner and never wanted to play against him because he always won!! Gordy belonged to Dilworth Lutheran Church and loved his pastors. Gordy struggled with COPD and every breath was a struggle. He moved to Villa Maria Nursing Home on October 21, 2019, where he died on Sunday morning, November 3, 2019.

Gordy is survived by his wife, Margy of 17 years; daughters, Sandy Luthi, Fargo, ND, Barbara (Tom) Sondreal, Crookston, MN; stepdaughter, Cheri (Don) Berland; grandchildren, Cole and Tori Sondreal; step grandchildren, Alyssa (Joe) Braun, Fargo, ND, and Angela (Boyfriend, Brien Bowlin) Berland, Charlotte, NC; great-grandchildren, the pride and joys of his life, Braxton and Keasha Braun. Nobody could make him happier or smile more than Braxton and Keasha. He is also survived by his sister, Donna Solum, Eventide, Moorhead, MN; nieces, Becky, Chris, Mary, Sarah and their families; and Margy’s extended family.

He thought of each and everyone of you as his very special family. God bless Gordy’s memory. To know Gordy, was to love him. He blessed all of us greatly. Heaven gained a very special angel.

Visitation will be on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, from 4:30 P.M. to 6:30 P.M. followed by the prayer service at 6:30 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will continue Thursday, November 7, 2019, from 10:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M., followed by the Memorial Service at 11:00 A.M. at Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth, MN. Final resting place will be at Hawley Cemetery, Hawley, MN, following the service.
