Gordon F. Johnson, age 94, died quietly, in his chair, with his daughter present, on March 16, 2005 at Pioneer Care Center in Erskine, MN. Gordon was born on January 6, 1911 to Fred and Margaret Johnson in Bertha, MN. He grew up in the rural Felton-Averill area. During the depression years he worked in the CC camp in Northern MN where he met and married Grace Hill in 1936. They made their home near Effie, MN. They had one child, Beverly, in 1938. Gordon and Beverly moved to Glyndon in 1940. Gordon answered the call to duty in 1942 serving in the US Army as a Medic in the Pacific. He was severely wounded near the end of the war. Following the war Gordon returned to Glyndon where he served as Glyndon's sheriff. Later he built Gordy's Garage and had a well drilling business.In 1969 Gordon married Florence Mielke. Gordon and Florence enjoyed fishing, hunting and traveling. Florence died in 1998 after a prolonged illness. Gordon lived with his daughter, Beverly, and son in law, Paul, for 5 years. He continued to enjoy fishing and going to Arizona during the winter months. In June 2003 Gordon and his dog, Tuffy, moved to the Pioneer Care Center in Erskine, MN, where he enjoyed many friendships. Gordon is survived by his daughter Beverly Paul Finstad; two grandchildren, Mark Kathy Finstad and Jane Finstad; four great grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Finstad and Mary and Jessica Tufton.
