Gordon T. Hegre

Gordon T. Hegre, 85, Fargo, ND, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2019, in Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Gordon was born on April 30, 1933, in Northwood, ND, to Ernest and Gladys (Swenson) Hegre. He graduated from high school there in 1952. Gordon married Ione Nystrom on October 2, 1954 in Northwood, ND. He attended Moorhead State Teacher’s College and then taught Industrial Arts in Hendrum, MN, Sheboygan Falls, WI, Fargo Central High School and Fargo South High School. In his later years he also taught in special education and retired in 1995. Ione died in August 1998.
Gordon married Barbara Varriano on January 15th, 2000 in Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake near Pelican Rapids, MN. They loved to travel, go on cruises and winter in Las Vegas with Cindy. He enjoyed his new extended family and all the commotion they created around him. Gordon loved spending time at the family lake home he and his daughters built on Lake Lida, near Pelican Rapids.
He is survived by his wife, Barb, Fargo, ND; children Kathryn (David) Klug, Fargo, ND, Karen (Bob) Barto, Dillon, CO, and Jonathan (Michelle) Hegre, Denver, CO; sisters Etta Jane Flohaug, Grand Rapids, MN, and Marge Endrud, Menomonie, WI; seven grandchildren Billy, Brock and BrieAnna Barto, Jordan and Madison Hegre, Lindsey and Jason Klug; four stepchildren, Teresa Smith, Moorhead, MN, Cynthia Varriano, Fargo, ND, Julie (Michael) Walsh, Apple Valley, MN, and Anita (Mark) Hetler, Fargo, ND; seven step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the patient and caring staff at Elim Rehab and Care Center, Pioneer House, and Hospice of the Red River Valley.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Ione, sister Eloise Hegre and brother Vernon Hegre.
Memorial Service: Monday, April 1, 2019, at 11:00 A.M. in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo, ND.
Memorial gathering: Sunday, March 31, 2019, from 2-4 P.M., with a prayer service at 4, in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
Final resting place: Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery, Pelican Rapids, MN.
