Grant Haug

Grant B Haug, age 91, resident of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, May 22, 2020 at Eventide on 8th in Moorhead. Grant was born in Chicago, IL, on July 28, 1928, to Gilman and Ruth (Renslow) Haug. He attended school in Ulen, MN. He grew up on a farm with his parents, sister and two brothers.  He married Charlotte Blakeway April 8, 1949. After a short time in Morris, MN, they moved to Moorhead, MN. Grant worked a short time for the Manchester Biscuit Co. in Fargo, ND before he committed his life to construction. Grant and Vincent Haugen were masons who put their talents together to establish Haug and Haugen Masonry.   Grant later went on his own starting G. B. Haug Concrete Co. Many of His employees were family and friends in the Hawley area. He continued with Melvin Skarphol at Twin City Construction Co. in commercial construction for  9 years.  Again he started his own business G. B. Haug Construction in commercial construction before retiring in 1982. After retiring he still did not have enough of construction, working as Project Managers again for Twin City Construction and later Industrial Builders. Over the years his workmanship can be seen in many buildings at Concordia College, condos and commercial buildings across Fargo/Moorhead area.  He was a charter member of The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd on 6th Street in Moorhead from 1953 to 2006, involved in the construction of the original church. The church moved to 40th Avenue in 2007. He was instrumental with on the site supervision of the new building, bell tower and recently the youth education wing.

The last two years Grant and Charlotte lived at Eventide on 8th in Moorhead. The family is grateful for his many caregivers.

Grant enjoyed the friendships he made while serving the community through work and church. He also enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting and fishing. Most of all, however, he loved his family. He will be dearly missed.

Surviving members of his family include his wife of 71 years Charlotte; daughter, Judy Berceau of Moorhead; sons Harley (Cheryl) of Moorhead, Dan (Gale) of West Fargo, ND; seven grandchildren, Justin (Amy) Paulsen, Joel (Nichole) Paulsen, Nichole (Anthony) Mastrud, Jessica (Nick) Massie, Jay (Caitlin Rakow) Haug, Erik Haug, Brenda (Mitch) Splichal;  fourteen great grandchildren, Ava and Mallory Paulsen, Keira, Trevor, Finn and Ellie Paulsen, Emerson and Avery Mastrud, Samson and Jonas Massie, Rowan and Hazel Rakow-Haug, and Kaylee and Mia Splichal. He leaves behind brothers, Robert (Jane) Haug, David (Andi) Haug and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilman and Ruth; sister, Harriet Wagner; son-in-law Bob Berceau and grandson, Jeffrey Scott Paulsen.

In memory of Grant, donations may be made to the Helping Hands at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.

A graveside service will be held at Keene Cemetery, rural Ulen, MN leaving Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead at 10:00 A.M. on June 5, 2020.

A memorial service will be held a year later at The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd in Moorhead.
