Greg Schulz, beloved husband and father, 54, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2014.
Greg was born to Delmer and Ardell Schulz in Fargo, ND on September 18, 1959, and raised on a farm near Davenport, ND – the same farm where he would later live with the love of his life, Sheri, and raise three fiercely loved children.
As a child, Greg looked forward to the time he spent farming with his father and was a proud member of the local 4H club. He attended West Fargo High School where he was an active member of band, the wrestling and cross country teams, and the 1977 Senior Class president.
Greg attended college at North Dakota State University before returning home to farm full-time at age 19 following the death of his father in 1979. He was a part of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity where he made treasured friends. At a fraternity mixer, Greg and Sheri met and together they spent long days and late nights falling in love talking, dancing, and mingling. They married in 1981 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN, and ultimately made their home on the Schulz farm.
In 1984, Greg and Sheri brought their firstborn Luke Isensee into the world. Justin Gregory followed in 1986 and Devany Ana was born in 1989. Greg was a passionate, devoted, unconditionally supportive father who loved his family with a full heart. He made it his priority to support his children’s endeavors and loved watching them compete, learn, grow, and take on new challenges. He was their lifelong cheerleader instilling in them the belief that they could dream big, reach high, and achieve their greatest potential. His love for his family was palpable. Greg was eagerly awaiting the opportunity to welcome Megan Skauge, Luke’s fiancée, into the Schulz family in June.
In 1997, Greg made a difficult decision to leave farming and pursue his college degree. In 2000, Greg proudly completed his Bachelors of Art in Management from the University of Mary. He spent the next eight years working in agricultural related professions. In 2008, Greg began farming again and a certain sparkle in his eye returned; he felt an unwavering connection to the land and the work.
Greg will be remembered for his infectious laugh, deep sense of compassion, faithfulness, character, devotion to family, and willingness to lend a helping hand. He instilled in his family a deep sense of pride and faith in God and His goodness. Greg had a heart of gold that will be forever missed and always remembered.
Greg is survived by his wife Sheri, children Luke fiancée Megan Skauge Minneapolis, MN; Justin Virginia Beach, VA, and Devany Washington, DC; his parents-in-law, Kathleen and Harlan Isensee Moorhead; Sheri’s sister Teresa Braaten and her husband Andy Barney, ND; and Sheri’s brother Scott Isensee and his wife Dawn Austin, TX. Greg is also survived by his nieces and nephews and countless friends.
The visitation will be March 3, 2014 from 5pm until 7pm with a prayer service following at 7pm. The funeral is March 4, 2014 at 10am. Both the funeral and the prayer service are at Sts. Anne and Joachim Catholic Church in Fargo, ND.
