H. Donald Brakke

Henry Donald Brakke, 85, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Hickson, ND, died Saturday, May 2, 2015, at home under the care of family and Hospice of the Red River Valley. Donald was born October 20, 1929, to Oscar and Clara Brink Brakke. He grew up on the family farm and attended school in Rustad, MN, later graduating from Comstock High School. Donald married Dorothy Edwards on December 28, 1950. A few weeks later, he began his time with the U.S. Army until 1952. After returning, he and Dorothy made their home in Hickson, where they raised their family and continued farming.

Over the years, Donald was very active in the community. He served as President of Cass Rural Water, and was on the School and Church Boards. He enjoyed Square Dance Calling and was a member of the Barbershop Chorus. He also enjoyed wintering in Arizona for several years, but most of all loved spending time with his family.

Donald is survived by his wife, Dorothy, children, Mike Laurie Brakke, Paul Brakke, Lori Mike Larson, Lisa Brad Kellerman, Brian Deb Brakke, Steve Colleen Brakke; grandchildren, Abbey Brakke, David Brakke, Jessica Brent Torgerson, Brett Larson, Amy Justin Perrin, Brady Tonya Kellerman, Alicia Kris Nelson, Melissa Chad Yde, Heather Brakke, Ryan Kari Hage, Erin Dave Gustafson, Karli Brakke; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Helen Brakke and Eleanor Robert Brandt; brother, Normy Brakke; sisters-in-law, Rhoda Brakke and Shirley Brakke; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Orris Lorraine Brakke, Milton Brakke and Gordon Brakke; sisters, Mildred Delbert Evert, Beverly Carl P. Carlson; and sister-in-law, Sheila Brakke.

Visitation: Wednesday, May 6, from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., with prayer service at 7 p.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral: Thursday, May 7, at 1:00 p.m., in Hickson Lutheran Church, Hickson, ND.

Interment: Lower Wild Rice and Red River Cemetery, Hickson, ND.
