Harlan Donald Kihn

Harlan Donald Kihn, 90, of Comorant, MN, passed away on Sunday, September 6, 2020, in Twin Town Villa, Breckenridge, MN.

Harlan was born on August 2, 1930, to Emil and Irene (Reinhardt) Kihn in rural Cleveland, MN. When Harlan was 3, his parents and big sister Lorraine moved to rural Ulen, MN.  In his 20’s he enjoyed travelling around the United States with a group of friends with many those trip stories shared throughout his lifetime.

Harlan married Pearl Pederson on April 4, 1959 in Rural Ulen.  Soon after their eldest son Gary was born, followed quickly by Brian.  6 years and 3 miscarriages later, Harlan and Pearl were able to add to the family and Michelle was born.  When Harlan was 42, daughter Annette completed the family.

In 1975 the family moved to Cormorant, MN and in 2012 Harlan and Pearl moved to Diamond Willow assisted living in Detroit Lakes, MN.  In 2015 he moved to Breckenridge, MN to be closer to Michelle following the passing of the love of his life, Pearl.

Harlan was a lifelong farmer who enjoyed his trade. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting. He shot his first deer at the age of 72. He rode his first commercial airplane at 85. He took up painting as a hobby for the last 7 years.

Harlan is survived by his children, Brian Kihn and Annette (Tim) Mahler; son-in-law, Steve Gjerdevig; grandchildren, Nathan (Molly) Mahler, Austin (Hannah) Mahler, Alec Gjerdevig, and Logan Gjerdevig; great-grandchildren, Emeric, Emilia, Roxton, and Jensen; sister, Lorraine Johnson; and many other nieces, nephews and friends. He is preceded in death by his beautiful wife, Pearl; son, Gary Kihn; daughter, Michelle Gjerdevig; and parents, Emil and Irene.

Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M., followed by the memorial service at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 12, 2020, at Cormorant Lutheran Church, rural Lake Park, MN. The service will be taking place outdoors weather permitting.  For those who wish to attend, please bring your own chairs. Final resting place will be at Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery following the service.
