Harlan Olson

Harlan Frederick Olson, aka Smokey, of Glyndon, MN passed away Saturday June 21, 2014 at the age of 78, at the Villa Maria Nursing home, Fargo, ND.
Smokey was born in Aitkin, MN on 11/3/1935.
Smokey is survived by his children Susannah Olson, Dilworth, MN; Patty Cheney, Fargo, ND; and Harley Olson, Fargo, ND. and his siblings Alvera Maki, Cloquet, MN and Charles Earlene Olson, Smithville, TN. Smokey has 6 grandchildren Samantha & Sabrina Olson, Nathan & Bethany McLaughlin, Leo Olson, and Alexandra Richards.
Smokey was preceded in death by his parents, Charles & Elva Marie Olson.
Smokey was a hard worker and spent most of his years as a roofer but also worked as a mechanic and did body and fender work. Smokey loved to fish and many days since his retirement you could find him sitting next to the Buffalo River with a bucket and a pole.
He was a kind soul who spent his retirement years helping people less fortunate and furthering the cause of drug and alcohol rehabilitation always willing to take in someone looking for a home. Smokey will also be missed by his beloved dogs, Buddy & Dylan as well as many friends, and the parishioners of Recovery Worship in Fargo where he could be found any Sunday giving rides from the Sharehouse, or similar places.
The Memorial Service for Smokey will be held on Friday, June 27th 2014, at Recovery Worship Center 3910 25th St S, Fargo ND, at 1:00 P.M. , friends may gather for one hour prior to the service. The family invites everyone to share a meal and fellowship at the Recovery Worship Center following the service. Smokey will be laid to rest at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.
