Harriet J. Johnson, 103, of Moorhead, MN, died Wednesday, December 30, 2015, in Eventide Senior Living, Moorhead, MN.
Harriet Juline Kotte was born on February 27, 1912 in rural Minnesota to John and Hannah Hendrickson Kotte. She graduated from Comstock High School. Harriet worked as a waitress for the College Club near Moorhead State Teacher’s College. On August 27, 1939, she married Bert Johnson in Comstock Lutheran Church. They made their home in Moorhead, MN, and had three children. Bert died in 1984.
Harriet worked at Waterman’s Clothing in Moorhead until it burned down. She then worked for DeLendrecies until she had to retire in 1977 at age 65. Harriet then went to work for Dayton’s until she had to retire in 1982 at age 70. Harriet was an active member and volunteer for many years at Trinity Lutheran Church, helping out in many ways. She also enjoyed playing cards, especially Whist. Harriet had a talent for crocheting, making everyone in the family an afghan to cherish.
Harriet is survived by two daughters, Jackie Klein, Fargo, and Julie Jerry Peterson, Fargo; son, Curt Sherry Johnson, Wilderville, OR; sister-in-law, Marlys Johnson, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers Hovin Dorothy and Clarence Thelma Kotte; and son-in-law, Lee Klein.
Harriet’s family would like to thank Eventide and the staff on 2nd floor for their exceptional care of Harriet.
Funeral: Saturday, Jan. 2, 2015, at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. Visitation will be one hour before the service.
Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
