Harriet Tweten Tufte, 69, of Moorhead, died Monday November 6th at Merit Care Hospital in Fargo. She was born November 2, 1937, in Grand Forks, ND, the youngest of eight children born to Sidney and Olga Syverson Tweten. She grew up on the family farm south of Grand Forks. She attended school in Reynolds, ND, and graduated from high school there in 1955. She graduated from Concordia College summa cum laude, and earned her master's degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead. She began teaching in 1975 at Shanley High School in Fargo. She enjoyed a 26 year career at Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Moorhead where she taught, and served for several years as the curriculum and staff development coordinator for the faculty. Since her phased-in retirement in 2002, she remained active as a member of the board of directors of the Moorhead Technical College Foundation.Harriet was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church and an avid volunteer. She served as a Comstock Historic House docent, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma education sorority. Harriet was married to Clark Tufte in 1957. They have three children: Susan Stoa Scot, Highland Village, Texas; Peter Tufte Judi, Peachtree City, GA; and Jennifer Fridgen Tim, East Grand Forks, Minnesota. Harriet has six grandchildren: Lyndsi and Landon Tufte, Erik and Emily Stoa, and Trey and Tate Fridgen.She was preceded in death by her parents and older brother Harold. She leaves six brothers and sisters: Marian Knudsvig Adrian, Buxton, ND; Obed Tweten, Fargo; Malcolm Tweten June, Fargo; Kenneth Tweten Carol, Grand Forks, ND; Erlys Hedlund Dell, Roseau, MN; Beryl Gilbertson Ernest, Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.
