Harry Hoover

June 6, 1943 — April 2, 2023

Harry Delton Hoover was born June 6, 1943, near Bismarck, ND and was raised on the family farm near Moffit, ND. It was here he met his life-long friend Elvin Agnew, in a mud puddle at the age of 4. They remained close friends until Harry’s death.

Harry had a passion for food and entered the Culinary Arts School at Dunwoody College, graduating in 1963, prior to his military service. He served honorably in the US Army from 1963 until 1966, stationed in Korea for most of that time.  After this, he worked at a number of fine restaurants in the Minneapolis, MN area, the last being the Sheridan Ritz Alumni Club where he met his boss, Beth Benson, who he married in 1973. They have two daughters, Lyla born in 1975 and Ailsa born in 1977. They moved to Moffit, ND where he continued to work at Restaurants and on the family farm until Harry found work at Motor Coach Industries bus plant in Pembina, ND in 1986.

It was here he met John and Norma Goertzen while they were out in the field ministry from the congregation in Altona, Canada and he began studying the bible with Jehovah’s witnesses. He was baptized at the “Messenger of Godly Peace” District Convention in Winnipeg, Canada July 6, 1996. He manifested his love for Jehovah by joyfully sharing in the ministry work. He enjoyed using his cooking skills to show hospitality to traveling speakers and other friends, usually baking for them his favorite sourdough bread.

In 2012 Harry moved to Ortonville, MN to be closer to family and continued serving Jehovah in that congregation with his daughter and grandchildren before moving to Moorhead, MN in 2020. He had been living with his daughter in Moorhead until he passed away at the age of 79 on Sunday, April 2, at the Sanford Hospital in Fargo, ND.

Grateful for having shared in his life are his two children, Lyla Waters of Alexandria, MN and Ailsa Nowacki of Moorhead, MN; eight grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and sister.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 29, 2023, at 4:00 PM at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, Moorhead, MN.
