Hartvick "Shocky" Kenneth Strand, 87, Moorhead, MN, died on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, at his home in Moorhead.Shocky was born on September 28, 1922 in Portland, ND, to George and Andrea Strand. He grew up and attended school there, and graduated from Concordia College in Moorhead. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Shocky married Evelyn Woessner on June 24, 1949, in Elbow Lake, MN. He served as the Concordia College freshman football coach from 1946 until 1947, taught and coached at Elbow Lake High School from 1947 until 1949, and then spent the rest of his career in education at Moorhead High School from 1949 until 1967 as a teacher, coach and then Athletic Director. From 1967 until 1982 he owned and operated Bob Fritz Sporting Goods in Fargo, ND. Shocky was a member of the Moorhead American Legion where he was a very dedicated participant in the Color Guard.He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Strand, Moorhead; children, Susan Kirkland of Minneapolis, MN, George Gina Strand of Moorhead, MN, Kent Strand of Moorhead, MN, Sandra Strand of Shanghai, China, Keith Strand of Moorhead, MN, and Sarah Scott Strand of Chesterfield, MO; brothers and sister, Solveig Jondahl of Portland, OR, Robert Strand of Portland, ND, and Marlow Strand of Brainerd, MN; seven grandchildren, Anna, Thomas and Alice Kirkland, and Matthew, Brian, Jason, and Andrew Strand.
