Harvey Lane (Boxeth), 93, of Fargo, ND, passed away on Sunday, August 9, 2020, in his home.
Harvey was Born December 4, 1926, in Summit, South Dakota, where he lived and attended high school. Son of Albert Boxeth and Mabel (Thone) Boxeth. Siblings were Thelma “Toots” (Fliggie) Narum, Gloria (Boxeth) Bloom, and Mick Fliggie, all deceased.
He is survived by 4 children with Virginia (Lane, Bergeson) Zetah; Mark Bernhard Lane, Gregg Allen Lane, Susan Lane Nicks, and Patricia Alice Lane.
Later in life, he was accompanied by close companion Kris Van.
Harvey was a pilot, musician, father, sportsman, businessman, and entrepreneur.
He attended USC and the Los Angeles music conservatory. During that time, he marched in the rose bowl parade. In WW II he served as Private First Class and clerk for a Colonel in the army. He was a live radio personality on KWAT in Watertown, SD, and was known as the “Winsome Troubadour”. He sang and played in many bands throughout his life performing with Mars Case in the “Versatones”, with Francis Hess big band, and occasionally with the Lawrence Welk band in the 50’s.
Harvey owned and directed “United Teachers of Music” in Sioux Falls, SD, and franchised in other cities in the western US. He was an accordion musician, importer, and seller in his stores. He also played clarinet, saxophone, and guitar. He sang and played with numerous musicians, including his children.
He was the owner of South Plaza Properties in Fargo, ND. It grew to a significant number of residential and commercial properties.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to all the care providers that helped him in his later years, including Hospice.
With the current situation, there will be private viewings at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN, Saturday, August 22, 2020, from 11:00 A.M. – 2:00 P.M. A graveside service will follow limited to close family at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND. Harvey’s family will organize a “celebration of life” with live music in the summer of 2021.
