Hayzell Audrey Olson

Hayzell A. Olson, 101, of Hawley, MN, died Tuesday, November 14, 2017, at the Viking Manor Nursing Home in Ulen, MN.

Hayzell Audrey Olson, daughter of Anton and Clara (Dahl) Olson was born February 24, 1916 in Hawley, MN. She was baptized and confirmed in the Hawley Lutheran Church. She graduated as Valedictorian of the Hawley Class of 1934.

Following graduation, she chose to work with her father in Olson’s Economy Store. She continued the family’s business for ten years after her father’s death in 1947. After closing the store, she worked at Cook Hardware until retiring.

A longtime member of Hegland Lutheran Church, she participated in Ladies Aide. Her other social contacts were through the Homemaker’s Group, Birthday Club and Sewing Club.

The area trees and lakes that drew both sets of grandparents, the Dahl’s and Olson’s, from Norway in the 1870’s was a source of comfort to Hayzell. Her tendency to save pictures, letters, and memorabilia leaves a legacy for her family.

Hayzell was preceded in death by her father and mother, Anton and Clara; sister, Angeline Olson Krough; aunt, Elizabeth Dahl; niece, Mary Krough Webster; and special friend, Clifford Bjorndahl.

She is survived by two nephews and wives, Robert (Sandee) Krough, and James (Patti) Krough; seven great nieces and nephews and 10 great-great nephews and nieces.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, November 20, 2017, at 11:00 AM at Hegland Lutheran Church, Rural Hawley, MN, with a visitation 1 hour prior to the service. The Burial will take place at Hegland Lutheran Church Cemetery following the services.
