Hazel A. Anderson

Hazel Anna Anderson, 99, formerly of Rustad, MN and Moorhead, MN passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012, at the Kittson Memorial Healthcare Center, In Hallock, MN. Hazel was graciously cared for by the staff of the Healthcare Center, and loved by all of them. She was known for her "spunky words and actions".Hazel was born on September 15, 1912, to Elmer and Mary Pearson Hagen, in Fargo, ND. Hazel was the youngest of four children. Anna Hazel Hagen was baptized and confirmed in Herby Lutheran Church, Prosper, ND. She was raised on a farm near Prosper, ND. She attended and graduated from school in Prosper, ND. She completed her two year degree in teaching, while attending North Dakota Agricultural College.In 1930, at the age of 18, she started her teaching career. She taught elementary school in several rural schools in North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1960, Hazel completed her Bachelor's Degree at MSTC, while working in the Moorhead school system. Hazel finished her teaching career at Probstfield Elementary School in Moorhead after 48 years of service in 1978. She was honored for 48 years of dedication to the education of children with an engraved brass school bell.Hazel was married to Walter H. Anderson of rural Rustad, MN on June 17, 1939. They continued to farm and live in rural Rustad, MN, where they raised their two children, Harold G. Anderson of Hallock, MN and Charles C.L. Anderson, of Forest Lake, MN. In 1968, they purchased a home in south Moorhead. Walter passed away in October of 1980 and Hazel continued to live in her home in Moorhead until 2002. During the years that Hazel lived alone in her home, she had several grandchildren and their friends live with her while they attended college. She loved the activity that this brought into her home. She loved to entertain in her home, and hosted most holiday gatherings.Hazel was an active, caring and an extremely generous person. She loved to visit many shut-ins as well as those in the hospital or nursing homes. She was active in the Hoff Lutheran Church, taking part in ladies aid, circle, Bible school, and programs. She was involved with the Rustad Wonderworker 4-H Club, directing many 4-H plays. She was also an active member of the WCTU in Fargo, ND and a Homemakers group from Rustad. She is survived by her two sons; Harold G. Anderson Jeanne of Hallock, MN, and Charles C.L. Anderson DeeDee of Forest Lake, MN; six grandchildren, Kjerste Craig Villars of Minneapolis, MN, Rebecca Mike Anderson of Dilworth, MN, Kari Crawford of Dilworth, MN, Dr. Brad Tracie Anderson of Fargo, ND, Christopher Kristina Anderson of Melrose, MN, and Lindsey Anderson of Eden Prairie, MN; five great-grandchildren, Talon Parisien of Grand Forks, ND, Anton Anderson of Hallock, MN, Sydney Jacobsen of Glyndon, MN, Kaitlyn and Ana Villars of Minneapolis, MN. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Walter, her parents, Elmer and Mary Hagen, sisters, Martha Hans Langseth and Esther Sam Seter, and brother, Bill Myrtle Hagen as well as a great-grandchild, Robbie Jacobsen.
