Helen E. Nelson, 93, Moorhead, MN died on Friday, July 17, 2020. Helen was born July 28, 1926 in the home where she grew up in Skree Township, Clay County MN to Ole and Mathilda Ronsberg.
She grew up on the family farm and graduated from Barnesville High School in 1944. On June 18, 1949 she married Art Nelson in Gran Lutheran Church in Hawley, MN. They made their home in Moorhead and were members of Trinity Lutheran Church.
In her early years she worked in Minneapolis and Fargo. For 31 years she worked at Concordia College, Moorhead in the bakery department. She was an artistic baker creating marvelous cakes for many occasions, including weddings, birthdays, retirements, along with the Centennial anniversary cakes for Concordia College and Trinity Lutheran Church. She mastered the art of making Norwegian Kransekake cakes to the enjoyment of many.
She was the first recipient of the Lucy Flatt Distinguished Service Award at Concordia College for her outstanding dedication to Concordia College, its students, faculty, and staff.
A loving wife and Mother, she unselfishly gave of her time and talents to all who entered her home. There was always room at the table for one more. Her greatest joy in life was her family.
Helen is survived by her son and wife, David and Mary Nelson; her three daughters and husbands, Sharon and Chuck Schulte, Julie and Scott Johnson, Diane and Rich Weniger. Twelve Grandchildren; David Nelson (Sarah), Shannon Schulte, Sarah Sands (Mike), Tiffany Schulte, Amanda Aaseby (Skylar), Tyler Schulte (Brenda), Michael Nelson (Amera), Ben Johnson, Peter Nelson (Laura), Kari Johnson, Nelson Weniger, Nathaniel Weniger and nineteen great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur Nelson, her parents, brothers; Marvin, Leland, Orris, Curtis, and sister Bernice Aitken.
A memorial service will be held at Zion Lutheran Cemetery in Hawley, MN, Saturday, July 25 at 11 AM.
