Helen J. Evert

Helen Jeannette Jorgenson Evert was born near Rothsay, MN, to Hjalmer and Hilda Strandlien Jorgenson on December 11, 1926 and passed away Tuesday, May 24, 2016. She was baptized at Little Bethany Church near Barnesville, MN, and grew up in the Hawley, MN, area. Helen graduated from Hawley High School in 1945 and married Carl A. Evert from Sabin, MN, on June 12, 1949. They lived in the Sabin area until 2000 when they moved to Moorhead. Helen worked at F. W. Woolworths and Silverline in Moorhead, and retired from Dakota Hospital after working in Food Services there for 12 years.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband Carl who passed away October 15, 2001, her parents; sister and brother-in-law, Beatrice and William Siegel; granddaughter, Christina Evert; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Dennis and Ruth Evert; niece, Andrea Evert and nephew, Ralph Fred Evert; and mother-in-law and father-in-law, Fred and Lillian Evert.

Helen is survived by two daughters, Diane Bruce Thorsrud of Grandin, ND, Linda Mark Krabbenhoft of Centennial, CO; three sons, Stuart Evert of Vergas, MN, Scott Rochelle Evert of Moorhead, MN, Bradley Kyloe Evert of Elk River, MN; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and many other family members and friends.

Helen and Carl were members of Comstock ELCA Church, Comstock, MN. She was an active member of the Women’s ELCA group where she held many positions, helped make quilts for the homeless and Dorothy Day Center; lap robes for nursing homes and the Veterans Hospital; volunteered at Eventide Nursing Home, and did mailings for various other organizations.

A very special thank you to Eventide Nursing Home and Hospice of the Red River Valley for the loving care they provided to Mother during her stay at Eventide.

Visitation will be Monday, May 30, 2016, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at Wright Funeral Home, 605 2nd Ave. S, Moorhead, MN 56560.

Funeral will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 11:00 a.m., at Comstock Lutheran Church, 2024 159th Ave. S, Comstock, MN, 56525.

Interment will be at Comstock Lutheran Church Cemetery.
