Helmut E.O. ’Hallie’ Behrens

Helmut Hallie Behrens went home to the Lord on Monday, February 20, 2012 at Eventide Nursing Home, Moorhead, MN.He was born in Glyndon, MN on June 17, 1919 to John and Erna Beaman Behrens, the youngest of four children. He attended school in Glyndon, graduating from Glyndon High School. He served four years in the US Army during WWII. He married Melva Gohlke on September 24, 1945 in Cuero, TX. They moved home to Glyndon to run the family farm.He was a dairy farmer until he retired in 1991. He enjoyed his family, working the land, dancing, swimming and woodworking. He was active in his church, the PTA, Rod and Gun Club, the Cemetery Board and the VFW.He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Melva and twelve children. John Kay; Trudi Lloyd Rehn; Gary Marilyn; Michael Gretchen; Jennifer Don Gytri; Kay Al Jastram; Eric Beth; Philip Jennifer; Carrie Jeff Barth; Leah Bob Henderson; Lesley Todd Singer; Tammy Marty Rehder, sister, Lottie Sugden, sister-in-law, Harriet Behrens, 26 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his mother and father, John and Erna; two brothers, Heinrich and Martin; sister-in-law, Agnes; brother-in-law, Mac Sugden and great-grandson, Zachary Wayne Wullstein.In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Glyndon Lutheran Church, Missionary Fund.
