Henry B. “Hank” Smith

Henry ‘Hank’ B. Smith, 80, of Fergus Falls, MN, passed away on Thursday, November 29, 2018, in Fergus Falls Veterans Home, Fergus Falls, MN. Hank was born on January 2, 1938, to William “Art” and Alice (Grunenwald) Smith in Devils Lake, ND.

At the age of 18, Hank joined the military, serving the Army in Germany for two years. Upon his return, he worked as a trucker for various companies. He was united in marriage to Mary Lou Krueger on June 22, 1963 in Fargo, ND. Hank and his father-in-law built a house in Fargo where Hank and Mary Lou resided. In 1965, Hank began working for the Fargo Park District and eventually worked his way up as the Pool Engineer. After retirement, Hank built a lake home on Lake Maud near Detroit Lakes. Hank and Mary Lou spent a majority of their retirement on the lake until moving in to the Veterans Home in Fergus Falls. Mary Lou passed away on July 21, 2015.

Hank enjoyed hunting, gambling, and riding around in his pontoon. He especially loved spending time with his grandchildren.

Hank is survived by his daughter, Pam (Harlow) Wise; grandchildren, Olivia Wise, Brian (Angela) Wise, and Amanda Morlock; great-grandchildren, Amelia Wise-Scira; brothers, Orrie (Pat) Smith, James (Jan) Smith, Larry (Ursula) Smith, and Kenny Smith; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Alice; loving wife, Mary Lou; daughter, Deanna Morlock; and sister, Carol Peltier.

Visitation will be from 12:00 P.M. to 1:00 P.M. followed by the funeral service at 1:00 P.M. on Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. Burial will be at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Barnesville, MN, following the service.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 19th, from 1:00 P.M. to 3:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN. A military honors will follow at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Rural Barnesville, MN, following the service in Moorhead.
