Cpl. Herman O. Sandy, 83 years old, died July 11, 2014 at the Minnesota Veteran’s Home, Fergus Falls, MN.

Herman was born December 7, 1930 in Moorhead, son of Oscar and Gunda Sand Sandy. He was raised and educated in Moorhead. During his time in the service he was awarded a Bronze Service Star, a National Defense Medal and a United Nations Service Medal.

Cpl. Herman Sandy was stationed with an engineer battalion at Camp Matsushimn, northeast of the Japanese mainland and received basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo.

Herman worked with his father on the family farm near Hendrum, MN. He also worked at Electric & Acetylene, Welding & Repairing along with the family hobby farm. Later, Herman worked part time as a fishing and hunting guide through a sports store in Ely, MN. He truly was blessed and enjoyed our Lord’s gift of the land, beauty of the crops, flowers, oh yes the weeds, hunting and fishing.

During younger years he was an avid bowler and enjoyed horseshoe pitching, winning many trophies.

During Herman’s semi-retirement a friend asked him to join the staff of a new hotel, The Hawaiian Inn later The Regency. This was luck because he lived nearby.
