Hollis L. Heimark, 90, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on December 28, 2018, at Sanford Health Medical Center in Fargo.
Hollis Loren Heimark was born August 24, 1928, in Moorhead, to Selmer and Leonora (Larson) Heimark. He attended school and graduated from Hawley High School in 1946. After graduation, he attended Concordia College where he played football. Hollis served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952, spending most of his time in Germany.
He married Gail Johnson in Hawley in 1951. They lived in Hawley where he worked for Heimark Chevrolet. Later they moved out west where he worked for Chevrolet dealerships in Boise, ID and Pasco and Mount Vernon, WA. Gail died in 1984.
Hollis became reacquainted with Ruth Wibe at their 40th high school class reunion. In 1989 they were married on the deck in front of their cottage on Pelican Lake by Pastor Marvin Witte. They enjoyed many summers there with family and friends.
Ruth and Hollis were both baptized, confirmed and their first weddings performed by Rev. Hauge of Hawley and Rollag churches.
After their wedding, Hollis and Ruth moved to Mount Vernon, WA, where they lived until Hollis’ retirement. The following year they moved back to Moorhead where Hollis became an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He was involved in Friday Fellowship, Senior Ministry and church bulletin delivery.
Hollis enjoyed all sports, but he mostly enjoyed his grandchildren’s school and sporting events. He inherited a family that quickly grew to 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and he was their number one fan. In his last years, the great-grandchildren were a special joy for him.
Hollis is survived by his wife, Ruth Wibe; his brother, Byron Heimark, Fargo; 1 niece and 2 nephews; stepchildren, Renee (Kevin) Brauer, Park Rapids, MN, Paul (Ann Jean) Wibe, Park Rapids, and Jan (Mike) Hoganson, Detroit Lakes, MN; 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Gail; his infant daughter, Becky Jo, and his parents.
