Howard J. Torkelson

Howard was born January 9, 1941, to Helmer and Selma Helgenset Torkelson, in Fargo, ND. He grew up and attended school in Grafton, ND, before moving to north Fargo when he was twelve. After high school, Howard started working at Hebron Brick. On May 25, 1963, Howard married Marilyn Lokken and together they started a family. They moved to Hawley in 1968 where he had since resided. Howard spent many years as caretaker of Hawley Cemetery. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, hunting, fishing and trapping. He also enjoyed gardening, playing cards and spending time with family. He is survived by sons, Chad Torkelson, Hawley, MN, Todd Torkelson, Hawley, MN, Dan Torkelson, Ulen, MN, James Torkelson, West Fargo, ND; daughter, Shelly Kevin McCartney, Kennedale, TX; granddaughter, Allyson McCartney; sister, Virginia Upham, Arlington, TX; and brothers, Dennis Torkelson, Hawley, MN, and David Elaine Torkelson, Rochester, MN.He was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn; his parents; sister, Sally; and brother, Noel.
