Howard J. Tommerdahl

Howard Tommerdahl, 76, of Moorhead MN (formerly Hendrum, MN) died February 25, 2025, at Essentia Health in Fargo.

Howard was born November 25, 1948, to Edmund and Norma (Ford) Tommerdahl in Ada, MN. He attended school in Hendrum until he graduated in the spring of 1967. After graduation he enlisted into the National Guard for 6 years.

Howard married Terry Jacobsen on October 5th ,1974. They brought 3 children into the world, Jeremy, Angela and Joshua. Just this past year they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Howard was very active & committed to Norman County. He served 16 years on Hendrum-Perley/NCW school board & served on the Norman County zoning & planning board. You would be hard pressed not to find Howard driving through town everyday and taking weekend road trips with Terry, usually going across the valley to look at some piece of equipment or driving to visit the kids and grandkids.

Howard’s life revolved around one thing and that was Agriculture. He started farming with his dad in high school, then farmed with his brothers, David & Dale, to eventually farm on his own. He later sold John Deere Machinery for many years, which led him to sell his own machinery in Hendrum. In his (retired) years, Howard and his son, Josh, baled wheat straw and sold it all over the country. To this day he was still helping a local friend with straw production. If anyone knew Howard, they knew he had a knack for wheeling and dealing and thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it - whether it was machinery, vehicles or straw. Howard was a genuinely kind and personable person who knew how to connect with others. The fact that he built lifelong friendships over the years speaks volumes about his character and how he treated people.

Howard is survived by his wonderful wife Terry, children Jeremy (Sarah) Tommerdahl of Audubon MN, Angie (Matt) Borgen of Georgetown, MN and Josh (Sarah) Tommerdahl of Moorhead, MN; grandchildren Grace and Henry Tommerdahl and Miguel Garcia, Anthony, Joseph and Emersyn Borgen and Laila, Everly and Boden Tommerdahl. Howard also had one great grandchild, Sullivan Tommerdahl; Siblings Shirley Mueller, West Fargo, ND, David (Marlys) Tommerdahl, Ada MN, Linda Borgen, Moorhead MN, Leeann (Alroy) Ambuehl, Perley, MN, Sister-in-law Vickie Tommerdahl, Alamo, TX, Father In-law Harry Jacobsen, Sister-in-laws, Bonnie Mohr, Shellie (Ray) Christensen, Cheryl Edenborg, Kim Warra, and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, brothers Dale and Greg, mothers-in-law, Joanne and Kay, and brothers-in-law, Harold, Tim and Doug.

Visitation will be Tuesday, March 11, 2025, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M. with a service beginning at 7:00 P.M. at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead. 

The funeral service will follow on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at the funeral home.  Interment will be at Pontoppidan Lutheran Cemetery, Hendrum, MN.
