Inez L. OrtnerInez L. Ortner, 87, of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, March 25, 2007, in her home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.Inez Leona Raff was born on July 20, 1919 to Leslie and Clara Moland Raff near Fertile, MN. She grew up and attended school in Fertile, graduating from Fertile High School in 1936. She then attended Moorhead State Teachers College graduating in 1943 receiving a degree in Elementary Education. She worked as an Elementary Teacher in Lengby, MN, Fargo, ND and Moorhead, MN until her retirement in 1984. Inez also taught Migrant School at Thomas Edison Elementary School during the summer for numerous years. She was selected as Women of the Year for Business and Professional Women of Moorhead in the 80's. In her retirement she enjoyed travel with friends to several countries including Israel, China, Russia, and several European countries. She was active in her church, First Congregational United Church of Christ, Moorhead for 60 years serving on several boards. On June 8, 1946 she married Henry Ortner in Moorhead, MN, together they had eight children. Henry died on January 19, 1981. Inez enjoyed working with children, flower gardening and spending time with her grandchildren.She is survived by seven sons, Dean Terry of Whittier, CA, David of Stillwater, MN, Mark Marcia of Excelsior, MN, Brian of Rusk, TX, Blake Kristen of Stafford, VA, Kenny of Moorhead, MN and Karl Denise of Belleview, WA; two sisters, Carol Pletan of Minneapolis, MN and Frances Elmer Flaig of Moorhead, MN; and fourteen grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister Mary Alice Raff, her husband and one son, Michael Ortner.
