Irene J. Globstad

Irene June Globstad, 92, of Detroit Lakes, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Essentia Health in Detroit Lakes, MN.

Irene was born on June 2, 1921 in Audubon, MN to Severt and Mabel Erickson Balken. She attended rural country school in Audubon. She did domestic work for many years. Irene married Selmer Globstad on September 27, 1942. They lived south of Lake Park on the family farm and raised their family. She worked for Lake Park Public School for many years. Irene enjoyed flowers and belonged to the Lake Park Garden Club. She spent the last of her years in Detroit Lakes. Irene loved coffee and was known in the nursing home as the “Coffee Queen.”

She is survived by her children, Gary Debra Globstad of Lake Park, MN, Iris Harold Oss of Shawano, WI, Cherryl Larry Lovold of Lake Park, MN; sister, Melna Globstad, Adelia Maneval, Ilene Sampson; 10 grandchildren; and 19 great – grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Selmer; sister, Doris Topp; and daughter-in-law, Karen Globstad.

Funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 at Cormorant Lutheran Church in rural Lake Park, MN. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 P.M. with a 7 P.M. Prayer Service at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley, MN and will continue for one hour before the service at the church the following day. Interment will be at Cormorant Lutheran Church Cemetery.
