Irene O. Dahlsad

Irene Odella (Thue) Dahlsad, 95, of Moorhead, MN, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2023, at the Sanford Hospice House in Fargo with her family. Irene was born January 9, 1928, to Albert and Inga (Braaten) Thue on her family farm near Walcott, ND. She was baptized and confirmed at the Viking Lutheran Church near Wyndmere, ND. Irene helped at her family farm and completed her schooling through the 8^th grade in a one room schoolhouse. Irene moved to Fargo where she worked as a waitress and moved onto working at the Manchester Biscuit Company sewing cookie bags shut.

Irene met Herbert Dahlsad at the Crystal Ballroom while living in Fargo and upon Herbert’s return from his service in the U.S. Airforce, they were married on November 24, 1956, at the Viking Lutheran Church, making their home on their farm in rural Borup, MN. Irene was active in the Viding Birthday and Homemakers’ Club, her Naomi Circle and later the Martha Circle at North Buffalo Lutheran Church. She was a Sunday school teacher and 4-H leader for many years.

Irene was a skilled homemaker with her large vegetable gardens, canning everything from a variety of pickles to a variety of fruits, baking large batches of cookies, and making the best meat, potatoes and gravy dinners. Irene was a gifted seamstress and shared her love for sewing with her daughters. She sewed clothes for her children, patched Herb’s jeans and made numerous quilts with her fellow church members. Being a mother and grandmother was one of Irene’s greatest joys. Her grandchildren grew up knowing they were blessed with the best grandmother ever.

Irene is survived by her loving husband, Herbert Dahlsad; children, Rodney (Karin), Edward, Linda, and Lois (Jack); grandchildren, Heather, Alicia (Tyler), Jamie (Derek), Katie and Caden; great-grandchildren, Rylin, Remi, Rielle, Sophie and Reese. Irene is preceded in death by her parents, Albert and Inga; her two brothers, Peter and Duane; seven sisters, Ione, Adeline, Helen, Glorella, Effie, Alida, Marion and a granddaughter, Brooke.

The family of Irene Dahlsad wishes to thank everyone most sincerely for their expressions of kindness and sympathy.

A Funeral service with Livestream will be held Monday, February 13, 2023, at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour before the service at North Buffalo Lutheran Church, rural Moorhead, MN.

Burial will be in the church cemetery in the spring.
