Irvin P. Wegleitner

Irv Wegleitner 82, Detroit Lakes, MN, formerly Moorhead, MN, died on Sunday, June 14, 2009, in Bullhead City, AZ, following a courageous battle with cancer.Irvin Paul Wegleitner was born on February 22, 1927, to John and Lizzie Wegleitner. He grew up in the St. Paul, MN, area. In 1944 he entered the U.S. Navy, serving in WWII. Irv married Lois Hendrickson in 1948. They lived in St. Paul and Ulen, MN, for a time and settled in Moorhead in 1952 where they raised their two sons, James and Paul. Irv worked for the City of Moorhead for 34 years. Irv and Lois enjoyed their retirement at their lake home on Little Pelican Lake and made a number of trips to warmer climates during the winters. Lois passed away in 2001. The last several years Irv spent summers at his lake home and winters in Laughlin, NV. Irv made friends wherever he went. Despite years of serious health problems, Irv never gave up. His positive, accepting attitude was an inspiration to everyone who knew him. Regardless of the challenges he faced, he stayed independent until his last weeks. Irv is survived by his sons, James Marla Wegleitner, and Paul Lois Wegleitner; grandchildren, Justin Kimberly, Amy Mark Schmidt, Jonathan Marie, and Eric; sisters Eleanor Johnson and Alice Saunders, brother Jerry Wegleitner; and step-mother Agnes Wegleitner.
