Irving O. Holm, 88, Moorhead, MN, passed away on Friday July 21, at Villa Maria Nursing Home under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Irving was born August 12, 1928 in Rollag, MN to Oscar and Evelyn Holm. He attended country school until 8th grade and later earned his GED. Irving entered the Army and served in Korea during the Korean War. He was injured twice and received a Purple Heart. After his discharge, he returned home to Hawley and married Shirley Dauner June 1955. They had three children. Irving worked in the Automotive business over 40 years. Starting with “Irv’s Motor Tune Up” which he owned and operated. He later worked as a service manager at Don Stone, Hawley, Balmer Motors, and Francis Peterson, Moorhead.
Irving was very active in the Hawley community, with the Chamber of Commerce, Rodeo, Parades and Church. He is a lifetime member of the VFW and a member of the American Legion.
Irving married Mildred Still Paulsen in July 1985 and they made their home in Moorhead where they lived for 32 years. He worked at two area churches as a custodian and did snow removal. After retirement, he worked at Ole’s Nursery and as a custodian at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. He truly enjoyed traveling, fishing and dancing. Irving and Millie danced at the Sons of Norway and other area dances, even winning a trophy in polka.
In his later years, he was able to stay in his home with his cat Tiger by his side while Millie worked. In his last two years that he spent in a nursing home he enjoyed sharing jokes with the nurses. He always had a smile and a thank you for all who visited with him.
Irving is survived by his wife Mildred; children, Evie Rick Wenner, David Diane Holm, and LuAnn Doeden; one step - daughter, Mona Klein; five grandchildren, Rori Wenner, Royce Molly Wenner, Holly Josh Mueller, Scott Chrissy Holm and Taylor Doeden; one step - grandchild, Carolyn Klein; three great – grandchildren, Hunter and Leo Mueller, Marley Wenner; three step – great grandchildren, Alexandra, Natasha, and Nicholas Klein; and two step great – great grandchildren, Kylee and Jeremiah Klein.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Thomas Holm and Dennis Holm; one sister, Linda Halverson; two step – daughters, Marcia and Patricia Paulson; and one step - grandson, Alan Klein.
Visitation will be Friday, July 28, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.
Interment will be at Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
