Jack Dean DesChene, 85, of Hawley, MN, passed away on Monday, October 2, 2017, in his home. Jack was born on July 2, 1932, to Gladys Cook and Sidney Rooney in Minneapolis, MN.
Jack attended High School in Minneapolis, MN, and joined the army for four years, being discharged in 1953. He later attended the University of Minnesota, where he graduated in 1972 with a degree in Social Services. After graduation, Jack served as a social worker for the city of Minneapolis for 23 years in the Public Defender’s office. Jack retired at the age of 64.
Jack enjoyed studying the bible, biking, fishing, camping, and family gatherings.
Jack is survived by his wife, JoAnn DesChene; son, Paul Rebecca DesChene; grandchildren, Dylan Megan DesChene, Chelsea Dustin Harper, Curisa Cargiuolo, Elizabeth DesChene, and Anita Cargiuolo; great-grandchildren, Ezekiel, Theo, Winnie, Fern, and Hazel; brother, James Karrie McDonald, and Cathy Perry Powell; and many other loving relatives and friends.
Jack is preceded in death by his parents, Sid and Gladys; daughter, Hollie Cargiuolo; and son-in-law, Louis Cargiuolo.
The family requests memorials to be given to The Gideons International, Box 97251, Washington, DC, 20090-7251.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2017, at 6:00 P.M at Wright Funeral Home in Hawley, MN with a visitation from 4:30-6:00 P.M. prior to the service. Burial will take place on Saturday, October 14, 2017, at 11:30 AM, Pleasant View Memorial Gardens in Burnsville, MN.
