James A. Lindley, age 78, of Moorhead, MN died peacefully on October 3, 2018. James “Jim” Amos Lindley was born on December 3, 1939 in Paoli, IN to John and Martha “Dolly” (Cole) Lindley.
After serving in the U.S. Navy from 1962 until 1968, Jim received his PhD in Agricultural Engineering from Purdue University in 1972. He was professor emeritus of Agricultural Engineering at North Dakota State University where he taught for over 20 years. An avid runner with a 10,652 consecutive day streak, Jim logged thousands of miles running, completed 454 road races–over 30 of which were marathons, including Boston and London, and was actively involved in the Lake Agassiz Pacers Running Club in Fargo, ND.
Jim was soft-spoken and quick-witted, and he believed in the importance of being peaceful and kind.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Martha, and his brother, Joel. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 56 years, Carol (Thoms) Lindley, loving daughters, Ann (Steve) Gill, Rochester, NY and Patricia “Trish” (Dave) Hoff, Moorhead, MN, brother John “Jack” and sister Jean Benedict, granddaughters Chelsea Gill, Natalie Gill, and Kayla (Hoff) Larson, grandson Nicholas “Nick” Hoff as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
No services are planned.
