James H. Sanders

James Howard Sanders 1928-2015 passed away in his home Friday evening, November 27, 2015. He fought to stay alive to be with the love of his life, Dorothy, but his heart finally gave out.

James had a great sense of humor and was interested in keeping current with world events. He loved to read and craft wood furniture. He was a long time usher at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Moorhead. The kids there always knew he had a pocket full of suckers to hand out. He was also President of the Prairie Promenaders. Dorothy and James enjoyed square dancing for 30 years.

James was born in Rochester, MN. He grew up in Fargo and moved to Moorhead when he married Dorothy on June 17, 1948. They have lived in the same house next to Dorothy’s brother, Merle Georgia Taylor, all these years. He worked most of his adult life at Twin City Freight until retirement in 1989. He had served in the Navy in WWII and just returned from the Honor Flight to Washington, DC.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy and his two sons, Jim Vonnie of Fargo and David Cora of Keller, TX. He also has two living sisters, Marie Undeberg of Rochester, MN, and Evelyn Yost of Florida; brother-in-law, Merle Georgia Taylor. He has seven grandchildren: Jim’s daughters, Janelle Keith Steinberg of Reiles Acres, ND, Carissa Tony Stauss of Harwood, ND, and David’s children, Molly of Albuquerque, NM, Michael of New Orleans, LA, Geneviv of Moorhead, MN, Geraldine of Keller, TX, and Gershon of Keller, TX; as well as 7 great-grandchildren. He loved our big family gatherings.

James was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara, and his twin brother, John.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, December 1, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., followed by the Funeral Service at 2:30 p.m., in the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead, MN.
