James Harold Shellito

James Harold Shellito, 80, peacefully journeyed home on March 18, 2018 in Sanford Palliative Care.

Jim was born June 26, 1937 in Moorhead, MN to Harold “Bounce” and Ethel (Askegaard) Shellito. He married “The girl he rescued from Wilkin County” Kathleen “Kit” Nelson in Comstock, MN on August 30^th, 1958.

Jim lived in Comstock, MN all of his life and it was said that he would be the first person you’d meet if you were new to town. Jim’s passion in life was his family, but a close second was farming. When asked about what he liked to do for fun he would say to “Drive around in circles and check fields.” He made many lifelong friends at the Knickerbocker in Hickson, ND, especially his Monday night pinochle crew. He always had a joke and a smile for anyone who walked in the door. Jim was a lifelong member of Hoff Lutheran Church in Rustad, MN. He was very involved in his community and served on many boards and committees, but his first priority was always his family.

He was especially proud of his three grandchildren. Although Basketball was his sport, he learned to love Hockey, Soccer, and Baseball. He was there for many milestones and leaves his grandchildren with many good memories and lessons of life.

Jim will be remembered for his million-dollar smile, his strong faith, love for his family, and most importantly, his kindness.

Jim is survived by his wife, Kathleen; son, Scott and grandson Tate, both of Comstock, MN; Daughter, Kimberly Shellito Barker and her children, Eric and Kaylee, all of Moorhead, MN; siblings, Kathleen Arnold of Mountain Home, AR, Harris (Patti) Shellito of McAllen, TX, Larry (Evonne) Shellito of Woodbury, MN, Sherry (Bruce) Akins of Hastings, MN, Bruce (Joyce) Shellito of Columbia Heights, MN; brother-in-law, Lance (Marilyn) Nelson of Comstock, MN, and many nieces and nephews.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, stepmother, Myrtle Shellito, and brother-in-law, Ronald Arnold.

A visitation will be held on Friday, March 23, 2018, from 5:00-7:00 PM with a prayer service beginning at 7:00 PM at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead, MN.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 24, 2018 at 11:00 AM with a visitation one hour prior to the service at Hoff Lutheran Church, Rustad, MN. The burial will take place at a later date in the spring at Hoff Cemetery.
