James “Jim” O. Sundahl

James “Jim” O. Sundahl, 96, of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, February 28, 2015 in Fargo, ND.

James Oliver Sundahl was born August 4, 1918 in Moorhead, Minnesota to Rasmus and Alma Jensen Sundahl. He was orphaned at a young age and raised by his aunt Josphine. In 1936, he graduated from Moorhead High School and attended NDSU for one year. He worked as a construction assistant until joining the Northern Pacific Railroad. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in 1942 completing 26 missions as a radioman on a B17 bomber. After serving his country he was honorably discharged and returned home to continue working for the railroad. In 1957, he married Irene Williams and they had one daughter, Karen. He retired from the Burlington Northern railroad in 1981. Jim loved spending time with his family at the lake where he enjoyed cutting down trees, keeping up the lawn and beach and fishing. He was a hard worker, a gifted story teller and possessed a witty sense of humor.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Norman and Alvin, and a sister Juneth. He is survived by his wife Irene, daughter Karen Elrick Poppe, grandson Dane Poppe, granddaughter Brynn Poppe, two nieces Susan Bob Johnson and Deb Sherm Syverson and a nephew Dan Kellee Johnk.

Visitation: Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead, MN.

Funeral Service: Wednesday, March 4, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.

Interment: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead, MN.
