James was born October 24, 1942 in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota to Kenneth and Shirley Hanks Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Detroit Lakes. He was employed as a well driller for LTP Enterprises until 1985. He then worked for Lesmeister Flying Service, retiring in 2006. Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing and was looking forward to the ice fishing season. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Joe Johnson. He is survived by one son, James Johnson, Jr., Hawley, MN; one daughter, Angela Richard Burnside, Hawley, MN; one brother, Bill Johnson, Detroit Lakes, MN; eight grandchildren, Ashley, Adam and Alyssa Olson, Mercedes Burnside and Shelby Burnside, Jessica and Joshua Johnson and Jacob Anderson; and special friend, Tina Hearn, Hawley, MN.
