Dr. James Oliver of Moorhead, Minnesota was born April 1918 in Kulm, North Dakota the son of Otto and Otile (Gackle) Isaak. He moved to Fargo during his high school years where he graduated in 1935. James graduated from North Dakota State University in Fargo and went on to study medicine at the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks and Northwestern University in Chicago.
It was in Chicago he met and married Alice Larson in 1943. They moved to Moorhead where he was a General Practitioner at Saint Ansgar’s and Saint John’s Hospitals as well as having a private practice between 1945 to 1955 until he was called to serve as a doctor in the Army. James was stationed in Germany for 2 years, Alice and their two daughters all very much enjoyed this time in Europe. In 1966 they moved to Minneapolis where James specialized in Urology at the VA. After which he went into private practice in Fargo with Dr. Richard Seifert for many years until retiring at age 65. He was much beloved by his many patients and friends, in particular known for his sense of humor.
James and Alice were very active at the First Congregational Church in Moorhead. He was an avid player of tennis and golf, self taught ornithologist, deeply interested in astronomy and enjoyed many travels with Alice and the family. At 101 yrs old Jim was the last surviving member of his 5 siblings.
He is survived by his 2 daughters- Dr. Susan Oliver of Boulder,Co and her son Gabriel and his wife Jennifer, and Kathy Oliver and her daughter Chelsea in Los Angeles, CA.
He was a loving and supportive father and grandfather and will be deeply missed.
A private family service will be held next summer.
