Janeen Marie Virnala passed away on September 6, 2013 in a tragic vehicle accident near Pelican Rapids, MN.
Janeen was born on September 1, 1953 to Rudy and Hilma Virnala in New York Mills, MN. She graduated from New York Mills High School in 1971, and graduated Cum Laude from Minnesota State University Moorhead with degrees in American Studies and Early Childhood Education. Janeen joined VISTA as a legal aid. She worked as a nanny in New York and Montreal before returning to Moorhead in 1983. She worked with infants at Great Beginnings Child Care for 17 years. She continued her career as a Para and Early Childhood Teacher for the Moorhead School District ECFE, where she worked the past 14 years.
Janeen was not afraid to live life to the fullest. She loved cooking, music, gardening, traveling, poetry and spending time at the lake. Janeen was a very special and loving woman. She was a loving wife, mother and teacher. She had a passion for working with young children. She was a great teacher and provided amazing ideas for the children in her classes. Janeen was lovingly known as the baby whisperer since she was so good at calming children who did not want to leave their parents’ arms. She will be missed immensely by her family, friends, and co-workers.
Janeen married Cliff McLain in Moorhead on August 14, 1993. They made their home in Moorhead on a beautiful spot on the Red River. From this union Daniel Patrick McLain was born.
She was preceded in death by her father, Rudy Virnala; father-in-law, LeRoy McLain, Hutchinson, MN; brother-in-law, Allen Andvik.
She is survived by her loving husband Cliff McLain; sons, Jon-Erik Virnala and Daniel McLain; step-daughters, Katie McLain and Elizabeth McLain; her mother, Hilma Virnala, New York Mills; mother-in-law, Ella McLain, Hutchinson; her sisters, Jan Andvik and Julie Bill Tessar, Moorhead; brothers, James Virnala and Jack Virnala, New York Mills; brothers and sisters-in-law, Janet Jerry Plath, Hutchinson; Barb Chris Tiggemann, Burnsville; Patty Marconcini, Hutchinson; Steven McLain, Hutchinson; Milan McLain, Silver Lake; Karen Miller, Lester Prairie; and many nieces, nephews, aunts, and uncles and cousins.
Memorial Gathering: Wednesday, September 11, 2013, from 3:30 P.M. until 5:00 P.M., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
