Janet M. Conrad

Janet Marie Conrad, 73, passed away Monday, March 30, 2020 in her home.

Janet was born on October 14, 1946, in St. Cloud, MN, to John and Loretta (Carlson) Hillstrom. She graduated from Clover Valley High School in rural Duluth in 1965. On April 18, 1970, she married Franklin Conrad in French River, MN. They raised a son, Steven, and a daughter, Kathleen. Janet lived in St. Cloud between 1970-1982. In 1983, her family moved to the Fargo-Moorhead area eventually settling in Dilworth in 1984 where she lived the rest of her life.

Throughout her life, Janet worked at a variety of places including Jeno’s in Duluth, the City of Dilworth, and was a custodian at both St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church and Clay County from which she retired in 2011.

Janet enjoyed working outside. In her youth, she loved riding horses. She also had a penchant for reading romance novels, watching old westerns and the MN Vikings (like her mother did), and listening to Dolly Parton. She attended St. Elizabeth’s Catholic Church regularly until Alzheimer’s forced her to stop. While there she volunteered for almost everything: cutting the church lawn, teaching Catechism, being on the Parish Council, Eucharistic Minister, greeter, usher, and Sacristan. She also was once a member of the Dilworth Park Board, and she coached her daughter’s t-ball and softball teams through the Dilworth Elementary Summer Rec. program.

Janet was preceded in death by her parents John and Loretta Hillstrom, and her brother Larry Hillstrom. She is survived by her husband Franklin Conrad (Dilworth), her son Steven Conrad (Fargo), her daughter and son-in-law Kathleen and Ananias Gracia (Dilworth). She is also survived by her siblings: Judy Williams of Superior, Wis., JoAnn (John) Pearson of Solon Springs, Wis., Lloyd Hillstrom of Green Bay, Wis., Patricia (Don) Hamsmith of Lexington, Okla., Robert (Barb) Hillstrom of Troutdale, Ore., Kenneth (Licia) of Chattanooga, Tenn., Richard Hillstrom of Redding, Calif., Laurie (Jerry) Strand of Superior, Wis., Tammy Hillstrom of Duluth, MN., and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.
