Janice H. Kundert-Hetherington

Janice H. Kundert-Hetherington, 81, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Jamestown, ND, passed away on Tuesday, August 14, 2018 at Elim Care, Fargo, ND.

Janice Helen (Sheard) Kundert-Hetherington was born September 19, 1936 to Joseph and Helen (Engle) Sheard in Cathay, ND. The family later moved to Fessenden, ND where Jan attended school. She was a cheerleader as well as an exhibition roller skater for half-time at basketball games. She graduated in 1954.

Jan moved to Fargo, ND to work as an aide at St. John’s Hospital where she met Donald Kundert. They were married there in January 1956. They later moved to Minot, ND where their daughter, Nancy, was born. They then moved to Bismarck, ND and had a son, Jeffrey. They settled in Jamestown, ND and had another son, Michael. Jan made Jamestown her home for over 50 years.

Jan later went to school to become a beautician and opened The Beauty Nook in 1968 in the basement of her home. She loved spending time with “her ladies” and enjoyed decorating the beauty shop for the different seasons for them. She loved sewing, painting, and all sorts of crafting, especially making gifts for her family and friends.

After losing her husband, Don from a long battle with VHL, Jan married Jess Hetherington. She became very actively involved with her church. Her and Jess were frequently ushers and helped out whenever they could. Jan also made banners for the church and enjoyed decorating for all different occasions. She looked forward to lunch after church with their group of friends every Sunday at Lil’s.

After Jess’s passing, Jan continued to be very involved with her church. She also continued to operate the beauty shop for a couple more years before retiring.

Jan moved to Good Samaritan in Fargo, ND in 2012 because of Alzheimer’s. Even there you could find her in the beauty shop styling hair or in the craft room working on a project. She resided there for 4 years before moving to Maple View for a higher level of care. There too, you could find her in the beauty shop. Jan spent her last remaining days in the care at Elim.

Her gentle spirit, kindness, and smiling face will surely be missed.

Jan is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, brother Richard, husband Donald, son Jeffrey, husband Jess, sister-in-law Sharon, and nephews Greg and Keith.

She is survived by brother Ron (Leona) Sheard, Sioux Falls, SD, sister-in-law Kathy (Roger) Enders, Tioga, ND, daughter Nancy (Don) Beaupre, Wolf Creek, MT, son Mike (Sandy) Kundert, Walcott, ND, and nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 22, 2018 from 1-2 PM followed by the memorial service at 2:00 at First United Methodist Church, Jamestown, ND.
