Janice M. Ekre

Janice Mae Ekre, 84, died peacefully at Eventide, Moorhead, MN, on Friday, June 3, 2016.
Janice was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, aunt and friend. She will remain in our hearts forever.
Janice was born on July 18, 1931 to Logan and Mabel Nelson Giere. She grew up in the Hawley area and graduated from Hawley High School in 1949.
She was united in marriage to Kenneth L. Ekre on December 10, 1949 at Hawley Lutheran Church.
Janice loved music and enjoyed getting together with the Giere cousins and harmonizing. She enjoyed entertaining and with Ken’s help they would host family reunions, Thanksgiving and Christmas gatherings.
Three children were born to Janice and Kenneth-Ronald, Stephen and Jana Marie, who died in infancy.
Janice loved her family dearly and always enjoyed when the grandchildren came to visit. She loved playing cards, Trivial Pursuit, and putting puzzles together.
Janice is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, daughter, Jana, her parents and brothers Lyle and Harold.
She is survived by Ronald Linda Ekre, Stephen Deborah Ekre; grandchildren, Emily Brent Helgeson, Ivy Barrett Ekre-Boe, Jeremy, Melinda, Calley Ernie Rosado, Jennifer Dan Harris; great-grandchildren, Sophie, Sam, Bradyn, Braxton, Elijah, Gabriel, Skylar, Brodie, Drew and Gabe. She is also survived by Silas and Shirley Giere, Dennis and Sandra Giere, Elaine Giere, Gordon and Carol Ekre, and many nieces and nephews.
