Jean E. Fisher, 70, Fargo, ND, died on Monday, September 10, 2007, of leukemia at MeritCare Hospital, surrounded by her family. Jean was born in Melrose, WI, to Carl and Nilda Nelson Torkelson, rural dairy farmer and school teacher. She graduated in 1955 from Melrose High School where she served as Senior Class President. In 1959, she graduated from Luther College where she served as president of the Phi Omega Chi society, sang in the chapel choir and met the love of her life, Wilbur O. Fisher of Rochester, MN. They married August 16, 1959, in Blair, WI. Their life together began in St. Paul, MN where Wilbur attended Luther Seminary and Jean worked as a social worker for Ramsey County Welfare. She was a devoted pastor's wife and said that her proudest moment was Wilbur's ordination in June of 1964. Their first call was a three point parish in Warwick, Hamar and Tolna, ND. They were then called to Larimore, ND where they served for twenty-four years. Jean taught Senior High Sunday School, was Superintendent of Vacation Bible School, program coordinator of the ALCW, and sang in the church choir. Retirement brought them to Fargo, ND where Wilbur served as an interim pastor at Walcott and Goll and then as visitation pastor at Trinity in Moorhead. She found her joy in her family, especially doting on her six grandchildren. Jean had a genuine interest and concern for everyone she met. Her generous heart has touched many lives. We will forever miss our Grandma Sweetie. Jean is survived by her husband of 48 years, Rev. Wilbur Fisher, Fargo, ND; three daughters, Kari Ove Sundberg, Arden Hills, MN, Kirsten Fisher, Fridley, MN, and Stephanie Eivind Heiberg, Ramsey, MN; six grandchildren.Friends may access Jean's website on Caring Bridge by clicking url\=http://www.caringbridge.org/visit/jeanfisher1/here/url.
