Jimmy Dale “Jim” Coates

Jimmy Dale “Jim” Coates died December 24, 2022, in his home.  Jim was born July 3, 1964 in Jerome, ID. When he moved to Fargo, he began as a chef and enjoyed working at several venues until he departed as General Manager of Old Chicago, Fargo, ND.

Jim married Shelly Meyer on September 1 , 2000.  They purchased a home in Moorhead, MN where Jim tried his hand at gardening and not only enjoyed gardening but surprised many people by his success growing many different vegetables.  Jim also enjoyed spending time with his two daughters Ashley and Christina.  His grandchildren were also a source of enjoyment.

Jim was an avid Dallas Cowboy fan; neighbors indicated they could hear him yelling at the team during every game.  He was also a Detroit Red Wings fan, some of his best memories were attending games with friends.  He frequented many restaurants in the Fargo-Moorhead area always looking for new ideas.  Many summer days he could be found fishing on Eagle Lake.

Jim is survived by his wife Shelly, stepmother Linda Coates, brothers Tim (Shelley), Shane, James & Rick (Pauleen), sister Cynthia Lee, daughters Ashley and Christina, 11 grandchildren, father-in-law Robert Meyer and brother-in-law Robert (Lori) Meyer.

He was preceded in death by his father Larry Coates and mother Jerry Biggers and mother-in-law Norma Meyer.

Visitation will be from 5:30 PM to 6:30PM, with a service beginning at 6:30 PM at Wright Funeral Home in Moorhead.  Interment will be in the spring at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton, MN.
