Joan Safgren

Joan Loretta Safgren, age 82 of Sabin, MN passed away Monday, November 23, 2020.

Joan was the daughter of J. William and Barbara (Braun) Rickers on December 16, 1937 in Garrison, ND. The family moved to Hitterdal, MN in 1947. Joan graduated from Hitterdal Public School in 1956.  On January 17, 1959 Joan was united in marriage to Kenneth Safgren, the love of her life. They were married at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Moorhead, MN.

Joan started a 44 year banking career at the Fargo National Bank. During her banking career, Joan made many lifelong friends.

Joan spent her later years traveling the world with her sister Marlene. Joan visited Rome, Venice, and Germany. Stateside, Joan took a cruise to Alaska, visited Dollywood, and took other bus trips around the states. Joan’s hobby was collecting not only dolls but Campbell’s Soup memorabilia. She was an avid gardener and a fabulous baker. Joan was a member of the Catholic Daughters.

Surviving Joan are her three children, James (Mary) Safgren of Randall, MN, Tamara Rask of Moorhead, MN and Robert Safgren of Sabin, MN; three grandchildren, Lana and Jacob Rask of Moorhead, MN and Denver Safgren of Randall, MN. Joan is further survived by one sister as well as a host of other relatives and friends.

Preceding Joan in death were her parents, J. William and Barbara; her husband, Kenneth; three sisters, Alvera, Evelyn, and Marlene and two brothers, Lennus and Sylvester.

A private family service will be held. Burial will take place at Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
