Joanne K. Hitterdal

Joanne K. Hitterdal passed away peacefully with family on July 15, 2020 at Farmstead Assisted Living in Moorhead, Minnesota.

Joanne was born on February 19, 1937 in Oakland, Nebraska to Ivar Nord and Hannah (Steen) Nord, moving to Hitterdal, Minnesota as a young girl.  Joanne attended school at Hitterdal, graduating in 1955, then getting a teaching certificate at Concordia College.  Once graduated, she taught school in Glendive, Montana and Hitterdal.

Joanne married her high-school sweetheart Ronald Hitterdal on August 15, 1957, moving shortly afterwards to Fort Lewis in Washington State for Ron’s military service.  Upon completion, they moved back to Hitterdal where she became a kindergarten teacher and mother.  Hitterdal would remain their home for the next 60 years, leaving for the occasional travel adventure or wintering in Harlingen, Texas. Joanne moved to Farmstead Assisted Living in Moorhead shortly before Ron’s death in 2016.

Joanne enjoyed baking, quilting, knitting, hardanger, gardening and was very active in church activities at Salem Lutheran Church in Hitterdal.  She was also very involved in children’s activities as her family grew.

Visitation will be Saturday, July 25, from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., followed by the memorial service at 11:00 a.m., in Wright Funeral Home, Moorhead.
