Joanne M. Erickson

Joanne M. Erickson, age 80, of Halstad, MN, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021 at Halstad Living Center.

Joanne Marie Sivertson was born on November 10, 1940 in Moorhead, MN to Sigurd and Ann (Klevgaard) Sivertson. Joanne grew up in a large family of 10 children on a family farm in rural Ulen. She graduated from Ulen High School in 1958 and furthered her education at the Swedish Hospital in Minneapolis where she earned her LPN. Joanne entered the Peace Corps where she discovered her love of traveling. She spent time working in India and later in the Virgin Islands where she was a trainer for the Peace Corps. She spent two summers leading teen mission teams. When Joanne came back to Minnesota, she furthered her education at the University of Minnesota, receiving her Bachelors in Anthropology and her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She began working for the University of Minnesota Hospital where she stayed for many years. She also worked at St. Luke’s hospital in Fargo, ND in the pediatric department. Joanne met Allen Erickson and they were married on June 12, 1993. They moved to Allen’s family farm in rural Climax where they enjoyed life together. Allen passed away in 2005 and Joanne moved to Halstad Living Center in the mid 2010’s.

Along with Joanne’s love of traveling, she was also an avid reader and enjoyed music, gardening, rollerskating, skiing, playing bingo, and visiting with family and friends. She was a lifelong caregiving and stayed strong during her own medical issues. She will be greatly missed by her loved ones.

Joanne is survived by her siblings, Sharon (Roger) Wright, Karen (Gordon) Fevig, Stanley (Dianne) Sivertson, Kenneth (Gayla) Sivertson, Elizabeth (Jesse) Lee, Ruth (Ronald) Larson, and Timothy (Brenda) Sivertson; brother-in-law, Eugene Ozman; sister-in-law, Glennys Sivertson; and many nieces, nephews, and close friends. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Allen Erickson; and siblings, Sigurd Sivertson and Lois Ozman.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 5, from 5:00 to 7:00 P.M., with a prayer service at 7:00, at the Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon, MN. A funeral service will be held on Friday, August 6, at 2:00 P.M. at Maranatha Free Lutheran Church, Glyndon. Burial will take place at Bygland Lutheran Cemetery, rural Climax.
