John A. Carlson

John Alton Carlson passed away on May 9, 2020 at his home in Dilworth, Minnesota. John was born February 8, 1944 in Thief River Falls, Minnesota to Alton and Agnes (Herseth) Carlson. He attended Holt Elementary School in Holt, Minnesota until his family moved to Newfolden, Minnesota. John graduated in 1961 from Newfolden High School which is now Marshall County Central. Following graduation John moved to Moorhead, Minnesota and graduated from Moorhead State University, now University of Minnesota, Moorhead. He was involved with various businesses in the Fargo Moorhead area and in the 1970s he became owner of JC’s Corral in Dilworth, Minnesota. It became a gathering place for the community and beyond. John owned and operated that business until his retirement in 2019.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Alton and Agnes, his brother, Mark and brother-in-law, Sigurd Christiansen.

He is survived by his sisters Karen Christiansen, Sequim, Washington, Kristi Carlson (Ken) Spokane, Washington and sister-in-law, Betty (Johnson) Carlson, Newfolden, Minnesota. Also surviving him are 4 nieces and 5 nephews.

The family extends a special thank you to John’s buddy, Curt Stubstad. Curt tirelessly and daily helped John throughout his illness, providing rides, food, dedicated assistance and friendship. Sister-in-law, Betty Carlson, was also an angel of care for him as he journeyed through ill health. RIP dear John.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date.
