John ‘Bud’ Nelson Meyer, Jr., 86, of Detroit Lakes, MN passed away on Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Emmanuel Nursing Home in Detroit Lakes, MN. John was born on December 10, 1930, to John and Adeline Nelson Meyer in Dale, MN.
Bud graduated from Hitterdal High School in 1948 and joined the Navy soon after his graduation. During his six years with the Navy, he was stationed on the Battleship Missouri during the Korean War. Upon his return, he attended Dakota Business College and graduated with a Business Certificate. Bud then began his banking career with 1st National Bank in Hawley, MN for a number of years. Upon retirement, he worked at Lakeland True Value in Dunvilla.
Bud was a lifetime member of the Hawley Golf Club, he served on the School Board, Chamber of Commerce, Fire Department, and the Rodeo Committee.
Bud is survived by his wife, Carlee Meyer; children, Kathryn Steve Romer, Danielle Jeff Poliak, Deb Meyer, and Kim Randy Jensen Meyer; 10 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother, Nathan Carol Meyer; sisters, Janet Burns, Joan Grefsrud, and Juanita Wendell Leno; brother-in-law, Charles Nelson; and many other loving relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Adeline; sisters, Aileen Malakowsky and Jeanine Nelson.
Memorial Service: Monday, July 17, 2017, at 11:00AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, 24897 Franklin Lake Rd., Rural Pelican Rapids, MN with a visitation one hour prior to the service.
Inurnment: Monday, July 17, 2017, at 1:00PM at the columbarium at Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery.
