John D. Johnson, 69, Pelican Rapids, MN, died on Friday, November 4, 2016, at Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
John was born on November 13, 1946 in Fargo, ND, to Everett and Helen Robertson Johnson. He grew up and attended school in Glyndon, MN, graduating from Glyndon High School in 1964. John married Sandy Kjonaas on September 8, 1967 in North Buffalo Lutheran Church near Kragnes, MN. They lived in various places all around the United States and Canada. He worked a variety of jobs including, but not limited to: working with dairy cattle, years in the warehouse and freight business, truck driver, blaster at a gold mine, and was a painting contractor. He retired in 2008.
John enjoyed all kinds of sports, especially horse racing. He liked music and going to concerts, cooking and travelling, including trips to China and Cuba, as well as camping.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra, Pelican Rapids, MN; children Shawnda Ron Rosdahl, Moorhead, MN, Brandt Jamie Johnson, Barnesville, MN, Rachel Chad Smart, Fargo, ND, and Zachary Kim Johnson, Barnesville, MN; sisters Virginia Johnson, Glyndon, MN, Kathleen Vern Grussing, Juliaetta, Idaho, and Rebecca Bob Casey, Ft. Collins, CO; eight grandchildren, Shaila, Kyle, Kieran, Jaida, Meiah, Riley, Morgan and Becca.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Robert.
There will be a casual gathering to celebrate John’s life on Saturday, November 12, 2016, at Billiards in Moorhead, beginning at 4:00 P.M. and continuing into the evening.
