John "Jack" E. Fuhrken, age 76, died August 8, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident near Glyndon, MN. Jack was born, January 4, 1934, in Watertown, NY, to the late Edward J. and Gladys A. Fuhrken. After growing up and attending school in Carthage, NY, Jack enlisted in the United States Navy, serving from 1951-1954. After his honorable discharge, Jack attended the Minnesota State University, Moorhead, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Education. In February 16, 1958, he married Genevieve Schroeder Collins. Together they lived and taught in Naperville, Illinois, Oregon and Downers Grove, Illinois, before moving to their rural lake property near Hawley, Minnesota. Jack enjoyed cutting wood, carpentry, making cornhusk dolls and pine cone wreaths, and wood carving. Jack is survived by his siblings; William and Bonnie New York, Kevin and Dawn New York, Anne Dimick Virginia, Vada and Glen Marolf New York, Sherry and Albert MeKeel New York, step-son, James Collins Sr. Casselton, ND and grandchildren; Jim and Roben Collins Jr. Bismarck, ND, Michael and Peggy Collins Minot, ND, Robert and Angie Collins Horace, ND and Kelly Collins Moorhead, MN, great-grandchildren; David, Kendra, Lakota and Tristan Collins and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Genevieve November. 2007, parents; brother, Mark and sisters; Joyce Hache and Jane Carlson.In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions are sent to Hospice of the Red River Valley or hospice of your choice.A social lunch will follow the memorial service at the Speakeasy Restaurant in Moorhead, MN, at 12:30 p.m.
