John F. Trainor, 86, Moorhead, MN, died on October 10, 2008, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo, ND.John was born on December 1, 1921, in Minneapolis, MN, to James Patrick and Myra Catherine Pauly Trainor. He grew up there, graduating from De La Salle High school. He earned his BA at the College of St. Thomas, St. Paul, MN, in 1943; his MA from the University of Minnesota in 1950; and his PhD from Washington State University in Pullman, WA, in 1970. John served in the U.S. Navy during WWII from 1943 until 1946. He taught high school at De La Salle from 1946 to 1947; and taught at the College of St. Thomas form 1949 to 1950. He served as Vice President of Trainor Candy Company in Minneapolis from 1949 until 1956. He taught at Rockhurst College, Kansas City, MO, from 1956 until 1962. John married Margaret Pudenz on July 3, 1965 in Minneapolis, MN, and they made their home for a short time in Pullman, WA, where he taught at Washington State University in 1966 in 1967. He and Margaret adopted their sons, John and Patrick, in 1968 and 1969. They moved to Moorhead, MN, where he taught at Moorhead State University from 1967 until 1989, serving as Chair of the Department of Economics from 1981 until 1989 when he retired. Margaret died on July 1, 1977. John was a member of the Minnesota Economics Association, serving as president in 1976-1977; the Association of Social Economics, and Omicron Delta Epsilon.John is survived by his sons, John A. India Trainor, Dilworth, MN, and Patrick J. Trainor, Moorhead, MN; brother, Jim Florence Trainor, Edina, MN; sister Mary Caroline Trainor, Minneapolis, MN; five grandchildren, Taylor, Eon, Kalli, Jacqueline and Aurelia; sister-in-law, Mary Margaret Trainor, New Hope, MN.
