John Holmgren was born August 25, 1916 in Lake Park, MN, to August and Amalia Romare Holmgren, where he was a life long resident. Following high school graduation, he worked in his father's welding business. In 1944 he purchased a welding shop of his own. He married Lenora Goranson on June 9, 1946. He managed the Lake Park Creamery Feed Store from 1951-1960. In 1960 they purchased the Red Owl grocery store in Lake Park, MN, where they worked until their retirement in 1978. John was a life long member of Lake Park Lutheran Church. He was a Masonic Lodge member for 50 years and a Lake Park Volunteer Firerman for over 20 years. He was an avid hunter, hunting deer over 50 seasons. He loved to fish and had special memories of catching a 26 pound Muskie with his brother, Nubby. He enjoyed playing cards and spending summer weekends with extended family at their cabin on Little Toad Lake for over 40 years. We celebrated John and Lenora's 60th wedding anniversary and his 90th birthday this past summer. He is survived by his wife, Lenora, Lake Park, MN; a son Robert Bertha Holmgren, Wayland, MA; a daughter, Linda Jeff Andvik, Moorhead, MN; three grandchildren, Molly, Marc Danielle and Ryan Andvik; a brother, Clarence "Nubby" Holmgren, Lake Park, MN; a sister, RuthMarie Stanley Eide, Lake Park, MN; and in-laws, Margaret Holmgren, Lake Park, MN, Alf Darlene Goranson, Detroit Lakes, MN, Ellen Speer, Felton, MN, Lillie Wally Hilgers, Moorhead, MN; and many special nieces and nephews.
